“GETWITIT” TALKS HIS MUSIC, LOVE, AND MUCH MORE

Butter B: welcome to 2KIB. Let me ask you off the Bat, you have a couple of names that you go by “Mr. TGDub”, “King LiK”… What would you like to be introduced as? How many names do you have

GetWitIt: I would like to be introduced as “GetWitIt” I have 4 different names

Butter B: oh wow, are these like pseudo names? like you know how Beyoncé is “Sasha fierce,… is it kinda that vibe or is it something else?

GetWitIt: Yeah for the most part. when people think of multiple different personalities, they think of Beyoncé, YNW Melly…people like that….. there big influencers and powerful people but their not really on a positive note. They’re more worried about how they’re doing and displaying how they feel, without taking into consideration how anyone else looks at them or how anyone else is impacted by what they do.

Butter B: right, also when you said you had several different names, that’s kind of representative of several aspects of your personality… Your not just one dimensional, you have different angels and aspects that define you, what are some of those?

GetWitIt: yeah for sure, at a young age (6th  grade or younger) I really felt myself getting drawn to a spiritual aspect of life, when I look at certain situations that I’ve been in, I could feel it physically, mentally, and emotionally. Growing up I really didn’t have a stable father figure in my life. That’s the major thing that made me woke at a very young age. I never felt like I was a kid, I wasn’t able to go to the playground, see the ice cream man, believe in the tooth fairy, and Stuff like that. It was very real for me at a young age. The first time I saw my mom get abused, I was in the 3rd grade. I’m 9 years old waking up to my mom coming in the house with her face messed up by another man. Life was real for me from day 1. My mindset was “ I need to get on my priorities and get up out this situation as soon as I can.

Butter B: I can certainly understand that. You open up in a lot of your songs. I feel like that is one of the things that is good about your music, there are so many people out there who deal with similar situations and they can play your tracks and relate to you. That is very powerful. So when did you begin Rapping?

“he was going to commit suicide in jail and after I rapped to him, it changed his life”

GetWitIt: honestly rapping is something that just came to me. The moment I started rapping for real is when my dad called me from jail and we were talking about music. I told him I wrote a couple of lines of rap and I asked him if it would be beneficial if I rapped it to him. He was like, yeah go ahead. I rapped it to him and 2-3 years later he told me the night before I rapped it to him that he was going to commit suicide in jail and after I rapped to him, it changed his life. And that was when I was in the 6th grade.

Butter B: wow that’s really deep. You mention “never selling your soul” in a couple of your songs. What inspired that? Did you see someone sell out, or kinda sell their soul?

GetWitIt: yeah for sure. All the artists that I look up to.. I really do my research on them. I watch their interviews and documentaries ( if they have them). To me, it seems like to a degree once you reach a certain level of fame and fortune, you have to do things that you normally wouldn’t do. You can see it. You will see people start wearing chains, start wearing Jordans when they used to wear vans. Start wearing Girly stuff and acting feminine when before they were very masculine. You can also see it with their personality and actions. I just saw a video of Blueface kicking out his mom and sister. Stuff like that is basically letting fame and fortune change you.

Butter B: in your song Prime Time, you say “ they keep pillow talking but I ain’t even going to address it”. What do you mean by that?

GetWitIt: So pillow talking is a slang version of someone talking behind your back. When  I used to do talent shows for the youth around the community, I had one of my friends come up to me and say “bro why don’t you cuss in any of your music”. I said it’s because when I’m writing it down and displaying myself to the world, I don’t want to display myself to the world like I’m a wild, ignorant person. I want to display it in a way that I can look back on it with my kids. Like I want to be able to show them stuff I did, like this interview and say this is who I was at this age. So it gives them something to look up to. My friend asked me that because he said he heard people saying I was unauthentic because I cuss in real life but don’t cuss in my music. That’s what I meant by pillow talking, they could have walked up to me and said that but I’m not going to address that because I don’t have time to be getting caught up in that.

Butter B: where can we find your music

GetWitIt: My music is going to be on all platforms soon but for now you can find it on Soundcloud. my Soundcloud is Mr.TGDub (https://soundcloud.com/king_lik1). I got a YouTube channel as well

Butter B: Your “BUTTER” question is would you give up your eyes (and lose the ability to see) for someone that you’re in a relationship with?

GetWitIt: for sure, I don’t need to see when I go to the studio. The only reason I say yeah is that I’m not that type of person that is going to play around… if I really love you then I love you. Love is an energy, just like an emotion. I don’t think you can show love.you can just fell it. Have you ever had a  conversation or a good vibe with someone and felt your heart purify? That’s love to me. When you’re in love, you have a connection, when your in love you have peace. I can’t really explain it but if I love you, you’re going to know and you’re going to feel it. If I give you any love, it’s going to be 100 percent.

Butter B: well thank you for your time, I wish you the best of luck on your rap career. And as always, Keep it Butter!

GetWitIt: Keep It Butter, Imma always Keep it Butter… I got you Butter

JAMAL “PAPERBOY” TALKS FASHION, AND HIS CLOTHING BRAND

Butter B: First off Welcome to 2KIB… Let’s get right into it. What inspired you to make your clothing brand “thepaperboycollection” and how did you get started in the fashion world?

Jamal: Thanks for having  … What inspired us to create “thepaperboycollection” was easy, we wanted to represent the inner hustler in ourselves as well as everyone else. I got started in the fashion world at a young age I have always loved clothes and just always knew I would create my own clothing line.

Butter B: That’s awesome, and yes it’s not just you but a team of 3. Who are the other 2 members and do you guys each have different responsibilities when it comes to the brand or do you guys work together?

Jamal: 2 of my younger cousins Martell & Chris Rollins and we usually do most of the stuff together but I feel as we continue to grow we would all have our own part in the brand

Butter B: Explain the meaning behind the name, why PaperBoy  Japan?

“I always wanted to work for things, I wanted more than asking for a handout”

Jamal: Well, the paperboy comes from the inner hustler which refers to working a paperboy route (mail) and the Japan part comes from being a simple logo but has a strong meaning behind it.  Growing up in Detroit impacted my views on fashion in a huge way it taught me to be myself and wear the stuff I want to wear and I feel this inner hustle mindset was instilled in me at a young age because I always wanted to work for things, I wanted more than asking for a handout

Butter B: Could you explain your style, and is there anyone in the fashion industry that inspired the  “paperboy” look

Jamal: I feel my style is casual with my own kind of twist to it because I try to keep it simple while still making a statement and there are a few brands we were influenced by like Off White & Vlone only in the sense to have logos on the front and back of the shirts

Butter B: I can definitely see that… where can we buy your merch?

Jamal: As of now thru DM/Text but we are still working on the website to make it easier for our customers… My Instagram is  @Thepaperboycollection or @mallly_1

Butter B: Are there any celebs or influencers that you would like to see wearing your brand?

Jamal: Yes, of course, I know a few people that are in the NFL, NBA, and NCAA so I would like to start with them first then kind of move forward accordingly

Butter B: Your “BUTTER” question is….. (Drum roll)…Everybody knows that only 1 coast sets the precedence and is superior when it comes to fashion and swag… is it the west coast or the east coast?

Jamal: East coast for sure

Butter B: thanks for doing the interview and best of luck with your clothing brand! And as always, Keep it Butter

Jamal: Thanks Butter appreciate it!
