“GETWITIT” TALKS HIS MUSIC, LOVE, AND MUCH MORE

Butter B: welcome to 2KIB. Let me ask you off the Bat, you have a couple of names that you go by “Mr. TGDub”, “King LiK”… What would you like to be introduced as? How many names do you have

GetWitIt: I would like to be introduced as “GetWitIt” I have 4 different names

Butter B: oh wow, are these like pseudo names? like you know how Beyoncé is “Sasha fierce,… is it kinda that vibe or is it something else?

GetWitIt: Yeah for the most part. when people think of multiple different personalities, they think of Beyoncé, YNW Melly…people like that….. there big influencers and powerful people but their not really on a positive note. They’re more worried about how they’re doing and displaying how they feel, without taking into consideration how anyone else looks at them or how anyone else is impacted by what they do.

Butter B: right, also when you said you had several different names, that’s kind of representative of several aspects of your personality… Your not just one dimensional, you have different angels and aspects that define you, what are some of those?

GetWitIt: yeah for sure, at a young age (6th  grade or younger) I really felt myself getting drawn to a spiritual aspect of life, when I look at certain situations that I’ve been in, I could feel it physically, mentally, and emotionally. Growing up I really didn’t have a stable father figure in my life. That’s the major thing that made me woke at a very young age. I never felt like I was a kid, I wasn’t able to go to the playground, see the ice cream man, believe in the tooth fairy, and Stuff like that. It was very real for me at a young age. The first time I saw my mom get abused, I was in the 3rd grade. I’m 9 years old waking up to my mom coming in the house with her face messed up by another man. Life was real for me from day 1. My mindset was “ I need to get on my priorities and get up out this situation as soon as I can.

Butter B: I can certainly understand that. You open up in a lot of your songs. I feel like that is one of the things that is good about your music, there are so many people out there who deal with similar situations and they can play your tracks and relate to you. That is very powerful. So when did you begin Rapping?

“he was going to commit suicide in jail and after I rapped to him, it changed his life”

GetWitIt: honestly rapping is something that just came to me. The moment I started rapping for real is when my dad called me from jail and we were talking about music. I told him I wrote a couple of lines of rap and I asked him if it would be beneficial if I rapped it to him. He was like, yeah go ahead. I rapped it to him and 2-3 years later he told me the night before I rapped it to him that he was going to commit suicide in jail and after I rapped to him, it changed his life. And that was when I was in the 6th grade.

Butter B: wow that’s really deep. You mention “never selling your soul” in a couple of your songs. What inspired that? Did you see someone sell out, or kinda sell their soul?

GetWitIt: yeah for sure. All the artists that I look up to.. I really do my research on them. I watch their interviews and documentaries ( if they have them). To me, it seems like to a degree once you reach a certain level of fame and fortune, you have to do things that you normally wouldn’t do. You can see it. You will see people start wearing chains, start wearing Jordans when they used to wear vans. Start wearing Girly stuff and acting feminine when before they were very masculine. You can also see it with their personality and actions. I just saw a video of Blueface kicking out his mom and sister. Stuff like that is basically letting fame and fortune change you.

Butter B: in your song Prime Time, you say “ they keep pillow talking but I ain’t even going to address it”. What do you mean by that?

GetWitIt: So pillow talking is a slang version of someone talking behind your back. When  I used to do talent shows for the youth around the community, I had one of my friends come up to me and say “bro why don’t you cuss in any of your music”. I said it’s because when I’m writing it down and displaying myself to the world, I don’t want to display myself to the world like I’m a wild, ignorant person. I want to display it in a way that I can look back on it with my kids. Like I want to be able to show them stuff I did, like this interview and say this is who I was at this age. So it gives them something to look up to. My friend asked me that because he said he heard people saying I was unauthentic because I cuss in real life but don’t cuss in my music. That’s what I meant by pillow talking, they could have walked up to me and said that but I’m not going to address that because I don’t have time to be getting caught up in that.

Butter B: where can we find your music

GetWitIt: My music is going to be on all platforms soon but for now you can find it on Soundcloud. my Soundcloud is Mr.TGDub (https://soundcloud.com/king_lik1). I got a YouTube channel as well

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMUUaeipz2Q

Butter B: Your “BUTTER” question is would you give up your eyes (and lose the ability to see) for someone that you’re in a relationship with?

GetWitIt: for sure, I don’t need to see when I go to the studio. The only reason I say yeah is that I’m not that type of person that is going to play around… if I really love you then I love you. Love is an energy, just like an emotion. I don’t think you can show love.you can just fell it. Have you ever had a  conversation or a good vibe with someone and felt your heart purify? That’s love to me. When you’re in love, you have a connection, when your in love you have peace. I can’t really explain it but if I love you, you’re going to know and you’re going to feel it. If I give you any love, it’s going to be 100 percent.

Butter B: well thank you for your time, I wish you the best of luck on your rap career. And as always, Keep it Butter!

GetWitIt: Keep It Butter, Imma always Keep it Butter… I got you Butter

JAMAL “PAPERBOY” TALKS FASHION, AND HIS CLOTHING BRAND

Butter B: First off Welcome to 2KIB… Let’s get right into it. What inspired you to make your clothing brand “thepaperboycollection” and how did you get started in the fashion world?

Jamal: Thanks for having  … What inspired us to create “thepaperboycollection” was easy, we wanted to represent the inner hustler in ourselves as well as everyone else. I got started in the fashion world at a young age I have always loved clothes and just always knew I would create my own clothing line.

Butter B: That’s awesome, and yes it’s not just you but a team of 3. Who are the other 2 members and do you guys each have different responsibilities when it comes to the brand or do you guys work together?

Jamal: 2 of my younger cousins Martell & Chris Rollins and we usually do most of the stuff together but I feel as we continue to grow we would all have our own part in the brand

Butter B: Explain the meaning behind the name, why PaperBoy  Japan?

“I always wanted to work for things, I wanted more than asking for a handout”

Jamal: Well, the paperboy comes from the inner hustler which refers to working a paperboy route (mail) and the Japan part comes from being a simple logo but has a strong meaning behind it.  Growing up in Detroit impacted my views on fashion in a huge way it taught me to be myself and wear the stuff I want to wear and I feel this inner hustle mindset was instilled in me at a young age because I always wanted to work for things, I wanted more than asking for a handout

Butter B: Could you explain your style, and is there anyone in the fashion industry that inspired the  “paperboy” look

Jamal: I feel my style is casual with my own kind of twist to it because I try to keep it simple while still making a statement and there are a few brands we were influenced by like Off White & Vlone only in the sense to have logos on the front and back of the shirts

Butter B: I can definitely see that… where can we buy your merch?

Jamal: As of now thru DM/Text but we are still working on the website to make it easier for our customers… My Instagram is  @Thepaperboycollection or @mallly_1

Butter B: Are there any celebs or influencers that you would like to see wearing your brand?

Jamal: Yes, of course, I know a few people that are in the NFL, NBA, and NCAA so I would like to start with them first then kind of move forward accordingly

Butter B: Your “BUTTER” question is….. (Drum roll)…Everybody knows that only 1 coast sets the precedence and is superior when it comes to fashion and swag… is it the west coast or the east coast?

Jamal: East coast for sure

Butter B: thanks for doing the interview and best of luck with your clothing brand! And as always, Keep it Butter

Jamal: Thanks Butter appreciate it!

Pro Basketball Player Kason Harrell “Churchboyfresh” Talks Basketball, Rapping, His Views On Toxic Relationships + More

ButterB: I just want to start out and say thank you for doing this Interview and welcome to 2KIB. This is going to be a very special interview because it is the first ever interview on this site and when looking for people to interview, you were top of the list, cause I know you will keep it butter and authentic.

Kason: Appreciate it Butter, thanks for having me

ButterB: Let’s talk about  Basketball, you just finished your illustrious career at Purdue Fort Wayne. Tell us about your experience there and how that came to be

Kason: Thank you so much I appreciate that. Well, it was the summer before my senior year of HS. I had just lost an offer from UNC Wilmington so I was really stressed out because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. After that, I had an AAU tournament in Louisville and coach Ben Botts who was an assistant at (then IPFW) was there and he saw me play. When he first showed interest, I wasn’t really too familiar with them and I didn’t even know they were D1. But then my dad did research and saw that they were, in fact, D1 and even came close to making the NCAA tournament which sparked more interest from me. We then scheduled an official visit, I was able to meet coach Coffman and the guys, and I prayed and asked God if this was the school for me, and he said yes. Going there, it was an amazing experience both on and off the court and I got to make some really good friends and meet some very nice people.

ButterB: When looking back at your career the most memorable moment for many fans is Your Go Ahead 3 pointer you hit to beat at the time #3 ranked in the nation Indiana Hoosiers, walk us through that, and is that your most memorable moment as a mastodon?

That was a moment I had been practicing for my whole life, and I gotta thank my Lord Jesus Christ for allowing me to be ready”

Kason: Well, the game from start to finish was just amazing. The Coliseum was packed, and I just remember we were playing our best basketball. John was doing his thing, Bryson was amazing, and other key guys like X and BC were doing a great job on the boards and stuff. In the second half, I remember I was shooting really bad, and actually missed a potential game-winner in regulation. It was right before we went back out for overtime, Coach Coffman pulled me over to the side because he could tell I was frustrated with the fact that I was like 2-6 at that point in the game. He told me, “Kason, you’re gonna hit a big shot for us right here in overtime.” And I just remember feeling confident and ready. Sure enough, we won the tip, John hit me on the wing, and I hit the shot to put us ahead for good. That was a moment I had been practicing for my whole life, and I gotta thank my Lord Jesus Christ for allowing me to be ready. That is for sure my most memorable moment as a Mastodon

Minutes Before Hitting the Go Ahead Shot

ButterB: What is next for Kason Harrell? What are some things you have been working on to improve your game?

Kason:  Well, I’m currently signed with Goempire agency, so right now I’m waiting for teams to hit me up. Right now, I’m just working on my craft, and staying ready and in shape. I’ve really been working on being able to create my own shot, for in college up until my senior year, I was dependent on other guys to get me shots. Now I’m trying to tighten up my ball handling so that I can create a shot for myself and others. I’ve also done some speed and strength training as well

ButterB: Let’s switch gears here( no Lavar Ball, Molly Qerim). You are part of the small fraternity of successful basketball players who also rap… just to name a few, in the NBA you got (Damien Lillard, Marvin Bagley, Lonzo Ball). Have you heard any of them rap and if so what one of them do you like the most as an MC

Kason: hahaha Honestly, I haven’t listened to much of any rappers in the NBA today. I mostly listened to Shaq, a little bit of Kobe when he rapped, and Ron Artest when he had a song on 2k11. If I had to pick one, however, I’d probably roll with Lonzo for present NBA Rappers

ButterB: When did you begin to rap and what inspired you to pick the name Church Boy Fresh?

Kason: I began rapping in 8th grade. I started freestyling just for Fun. Then I wrote my first rap towards the end of summer and my pastor at my church allowed me to perform it in service the following week and I got a lot of positive feedback from the people in my church. After that, I began to take it more seriously and the name Church boy fresh came from a T-shirt that my sister got me at a church conference. I saw the shirt and thought the name was cool so I decided to use it as my own. I use rap as a way to tell other people about Jesus. People love music and so I decided to use rap music as a way to witness to people about Christ.

ButterB: That’s dope!! Are you working on any new music, and where can people find or listen to your music

Kason: I am just now starting to get back into writing. And I usually post stuff on my Instagram (churchboyfresh32) Twitter (https://twitter.com/ChurchBoy_32) or my Snapchat (mastodon32)

ButterB: Do you sing in the shower?

Kason: haha sometimes

ButterB: It looks like you have a new found Bromance with former Ball state  basketball player “Trey Moses” tell us about how that came to be and yawls constant back and forth on Twitter

Kason: Haha well me and trey became close after sophomore year. We had scrimmaged each other and he told me after the scrimmage that he really respected my game and to keep working hard. Later on, we became friends through social media and we keep in touch a lot. A lot of the back and forth comes from the fact that he is “the GOAT ” at ball state, especially when it comes to the ladies, and I always ask him how he does it and he insists that actually, it’s ME who is “the GOAT” with all the ladies so we always go back and forth but that’s my dawg for sure

ButterB: Now we do this thing at 2KIB where we like to end our interviews with a “Keep It Butter” question. This question we ask our interviewees to be “100” and keep it butter. Your question is “Why do some people stay in relationships that they know are toxic”?

Kason: I think because they feel insecure. Like, girls feel like they can’t live without him and guys think they can’t live without her. So, even when stuff ain’t going right, and they’re getting hurt either emotionally mentally or physically, they feel like they’re stuck. I wish that they knew that God has better for them and that they don’t need a man or woman to fulfill happiness. True joy and happiness is found in Christ. “100”

ButterB: Thanks for doing this interview man, had a fun time, and best of luck to you on your professional basketball career and with rapping. Last but not least and as always keep it Butter G

Kason: Always a pleasure Butter  Thanks for having me
