College Basketball Player Dee Montgomery Talks His Decision to stay at U Indy, Being A Sneakerhead, And More
ButterB: Hello, welcome to 2KIB. How has you’re summer been? (with the pandemic going on) What areas of your game have you been focusing on to improve on?
Dee: It’s been good! I’ve been able to get in the gym. I workout Monday through Friday. Sometimes I even do 2 a days. I’m Just getting my confidence back. My knowledge of the game has gotten better. Decision, play making, and also I’ve been sharpening my jump shot.
ButterB: Earlier this year, you put your name in the transfer portal but ultimately decided to stay at U Indy. What went into your decision to stay?
Dee: The love from my team and the fans messaging me on why I should stay! I also felt like it would put me in the best position in the long run. Also, I know we can do big things as a team next year. Our goal is to win the GLVC Championship, and make a run in the NCAA tournament. With the team we have I know we’ll make those things happen.
ButterB: For sure, did the hiring of Paul Casaro as the new head coach play a part in it as well?
Dee: Yeah it was part of the reason being that he was a former coach of mine, and how hard he recruited me throughout the process!
ButterB: Who are some others players on your team that we should look for this year?
Dee: Cory Miller, Jesse Bingham, Kendrick Tchoua. All league guys! And we have some incoming transfers that will make some noise
ButterB: So you’re known for your swag, and particularly all the shoes you have. Are you a sneaker head or a Hypebeast?
Dee: SneakHead! My love for shoes started in high school. I have over 100 pairs. My love came from knowing the history behind shoes and seeing all the older dudes from around my way kicks. My favorite pair of shoes are Jordan 4’s. When I finish playing basketball I plan to open a sneaker store!
ButterB: Awesome! So how do you feel about all the things going on in America and the BLM movement, and how to you personally react to it?
Dee: Personally, I feel good that people are finally standing up for what’s right. These things have been going on way too long. I fully support the BLM movement. The coaching staff spoke to us about the matter and I personally went out to a protest with my former teammate, Jordache Mavunga, and close friend, Delvin Lobbins
ButterB: Awesome, so the last question and the keepitbutter question is “why do you some females say they want to date nice guys, but then never give them chances?”
Dee: They spend too much time chasing after dudes that don’t want them. Meanwhile they missing they blessing! They need to start answering their DM’s from nice guys hahah.
ButterB: Haha! thanks for the interview Dee, best of luck this year, and as always Keep it Butter!!
Dee: For sure, Butter!
